If you can answer yes to any of those questions, you might benefit from the laser dentistry services we offer at Lee Palmer, DDS.

How your dentist uses laser technology

A dental laser is a convenient, discreet method of treatment. Our dental laser does not emit any noticeable sound, other than a rush of air from the suction we use to maintain a cool, clean treatment area. Laser treatment is precise; Dr. Palmer can control the laser to make incisions that are nanometers deep.

The benefits of treatment with a dental laser include:

  • You will feel less discomfort, minimizing the use of anesthetic during a procedure or the need for any pain medication following your dental appointment.
  • Bleeding is minimized, because the laser immediately cauterizes and seals any incisions that are made.
  • You also experience less swelling from treatment with a dental laser, as opposed to incisions being made by hand with a scalpel.
  • Your procedure can be completed more quickly, lessening the amount of time you spend in the dental chair. This also increases the number of patients we can see on a daily basis.
  • Laser dentistry is less invasive, minimizing the need for stitches or sutures.
  • The laser automatically sterilizes the site of treatment, greatly lowering any risk of infection.

What types of lasers do we use?

  • Soft Tissue – The soft tissue laser can be employed to treat a variety of soft tissue pathologies, including the removal of a cavity or to aid in preparation for a crown.  Dr. Palmer also uses this laser to perform a cosmetic recontouring of the gums, to desensitize teeth or treat a painful canker sore. A soft tissue laser also can reduce your risk of gum disease, by vaporizing the potentially harmful bacteria that lead to an infection. Dr. Palmer also can employ this laser technology to perform a frenectomy, removing a lip-tie or tongue-tie from patients of any age.
  • Hard Tissue – These lasers are designed to work on tooth and bone. We use this method of laser therapy in Franklin to remove older fillings or areas of decay from teeth. Even an entire cavity can be removed with no need for local anesthetic. This laser also could be used before the placement of veneers, to smooth the front of the tooth or teeth being treated and ensure the veneer makes a flush bond.
